history
Hotaru is the third child of five from a rather poor family that might not know birth control exists. Her father is bedridden with an illness and her mother died giving birth to her youngest sister. Her oldest sister is away and married and her older brother works all the time to provide for the family, so Hotaru is the one in charge for doing household chores and cooking and caring for her two younger siblings.
Her father used to go away for long weeks at a time when she was a child, leaving her in the care of her oldest sister Tsumugu. Without her parents to take care of her, Hotaru learned to just not make much trouble for her sister and just go with whatever her siblings wanted just so it would be less work for Tsumugu, as she learned from watching her older brother Kaoru who always stayed out and caused trouble that it stressed Tsumugu out if she was to act out like he did. Tsumugu was the only person she saw as a parental figure, so it wouldn't feel right if she made her stressed as well.
As Tsumugu got roped into a marriage and went away, Hotaru's father whom she had little contact with - thanks to the elusive work he had and the equally elusive pay check - fell ill. Kaoru, who at the time had already dropped out of school and got plenty of part-time jobs, became the main breadwinner for the Hagimoto household. The small income they had just got even smaller, and she took on Tsumugu's previous work of taking care of the family - it was the least she could do.
Hotaru fell in love with a member of IRIS at first sight and enrolled in Ishikawa to follow her footsteps. Even though it didn't look like it (with her just agreeing to everything and wanting to sleep at every idle moment), she did put on a lot of effort into her idol training activities in the hopes that the person she loved would pay attention to her. And at first, it paid off. She was always so nice to Hotaru, pushing her motivation further. But slowly, as the members fall off one by one, even her beloved senpai's facade fell through. She was told to give up on the club, and on her love. But Hotaru didn't like change, so when a a groupmate asked her if she wanted to continue, she found herself agreeing like she usually did, only with more motivation than usual.
personality
Hotaru is a chill, relaxed, go-along-as-you-go kind of person. She just goes with the flow most of the time and says yes to anything other people propose to her no matter how crazy, mostly because refusing is too much effort to justify herself and she just doesn't want to make things awkward because it's too much of a hassle. She doesn't like troublesome things because life is already hard enough, no need to add to that difficulty.
She's kind of shameless and just does things she wants to unapologetically, because you only live once fam no need to be shy or embarrassed.
Hotaru doesn't really sugarcoat things and says things how it is because she finds lying about things will just make it more complicated when problem arises.
She avoids drama like a plague because it's way too much of a hassle to handle, and her life motto is basically life's too short to be thinking or doing troublesome things.
Hotaru doesn't really get mad at anything, but when problem arises she just grows indifferent to it. She straight up ignores to acknowledge there is a problem and simply treats the problem as if it vanishes, mostly because confronting the problem is just way too troublesome.
